Last time we spoke to Uzo, he was on his way to Jamaica. But he could just as easily have been heading for New York where he lives sometimes, or Sydney where he lives at other times, or to his studio just around the corner from us in East London. He might’ve been on the way to shoot an editorial for Vogue or to make a film for Chanel.
It turns out he was actually going on holiday, which is fair enough when in the last year alone you’ve made an Oscar-qualifying short film (it’s called Edicius, it’s amazing, Idris Elba is the exec producer and you can check out the trailer here), made commercials with the likes of John Lewis, Pantene and Nestle, and taken photographs of icons of contemporary culture like Cara Delevingne, David Beckham and Ed Sheeran.
With an array of photography credits in seminal fashion magazines, a roster of clients that includes Nike, Sony Music and Mac Cosmetics and an ever-increasing demand for his services as a director, Uzo is the man for high-end, cinematic, and conceptual, culture-driven films.
He also knows the best beaches in Montego Bay, if you’re ever over that way.
